Kafele's FREE Parent Empowerment Workshops
Summer play and relaxation have come to a rapid end for our
children and it's now time for educators, parents and students
to gear up for the challenges of the 2006-07 school year. One
of the most pressing issues that we face in the Black and Latino
communities is less than desirable levels of parental
involvement. Consequently, for the past 16 years, I have
committed myself to working with Black and Latino parents from
all over the NY – NJ area by conducting FREE Parent Empowerment
Workshops in their children’s schools and parenting conferences.
I even make it to Philadelphia and Connecticut if it’s on the
weekend! The workshops are professionally presented as I
conduct them as power point presentations.
As I am going into year 17, I encourage you to forward this
email to everyone on your email lists. I don’t do these
sessions for profit. They are FREE of charge. I do them out of
necessity for the survival and development of our children. The
way it works is a representative from the school gets in contact
with me. We decide on a date and time and its done. Of course
as the author of the book, A Black Parent’s Handbook to
Educating Your Children (Outside of the Classroom), I bring
copies along for parents that may be interested in purchasing
copies for further reinforcement, which are a meager $5.00 each.
Parents and school representatives can get in contact with me by
emailing me at
bkafele@earthlink.net.

Looking For Male Mentors:
If you are a “positive” Black or Latino male (man) in the NJ
area who is fed up with the plight of so many of our young Black
and Latino men (boys), here's your chance to be about a
solution. As all of you know, I am the principal of Newark Tech
HS in Newark, NJ. My young men need more “positive” adult Black
and Latino men in their lives!!! If you’re “positive” and
you've got something worthwhile to say to my male students, and
won't "break the bank" to say it, I invite you to come to my
school on any day that I hold my Male Empowerment Meetings with
my male students. I hold these meetings every first Monday of
the month...my freshmen and sophomores in the morning and my
juniors and seniors in the afternoon.
Are you interested? Do you know someone else who may share the
same interest in saving AND developing our young men with strong
and meaningful messages, from other strong Black and Latino men?
If so, reply to this email ASAP. You can also call me at my
office at 973-622-1100 ex. 4001 or email me at
bkafele@earthlink.net for an initial meeting with
me. As we are a school, I must be certain that you meet my
criteria for exposure to my students.
My Criteria – I’m looking for positive and productive men
who are doing constructive things with their lives, while
looking to make a difference in the lives of others. If you are
into negative activities, this is not the proper venue for you.
Don’t sit on the sidelines complaining about the problems of
Black and Latino male youth. This is your opportunity to
potentially join Principal Baruti Kafele and my male staff on
the front lines towards providing our young men with life-saving
and life-developing messages from other Black and Latino men.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
